Facit achieves Cyber Essentials Plus

Logo for the Cyber Essentials Plus certification.
The cutting-edge compliance and video analytics business has been awarded Cyber Essentials Plus – a government backed accreditation which demonstrates high cybersecurity standards.

Cyber Essentials Plus demonstrates Facit’s polices, procedures and commitment to ensuring the highest level of cybersecurity and peace of mind for its clients and partners.

The external verification includes a rigorous review of the company’s security processes, and verifies secure IT configuration, workstations, access control and more.

Facit operates in the security sector, handling private and sensitive information, and its number one priority is to safeguard its data. Facit is an advocate of this certification as it is a leading provider of AI-powered software that helps businesses keep their data private and in line with data privacy laws. Waqas Hassan, Managing Director of Facit, stated:

‘’I am pleased we have successfully been awarded the Certificate of Assurance as it demonstrates our commitment and competence to not only keep secure our internal data, but also guide and support our clients to ensure their own data is kept safe. You can land a huge fine and a damaging reputation for not carrying out some very simple procedures, and it really is a priority for all businesses, not just the larger corporations’’.

To obtain this business certification, internally Facit demonstrated that it complied with the following five technical controls:

  1. Protect every device with an appropriately configured firewall (or network device with firewall functionality)

  2. Ensure all computers and network devices are configured to reduce security breaches and only provide services to meet the needs of the job

  3. Make sure active software is licensed and supported, removed from devices when inactive, and have regular security updates in place

  4. Review user access control, ensuring employees only have access to the tools they need

  5. Implement multi-factor logins for all employees across all offline programmes or online tools

Why should businesses obtain the Cyber Essentials certification?

  • Cyber Essentials is a government-backed scheme that helps companies protect themselves against a wide variety of the most common cyber-attacks

  • It was introduced by the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)

  • In the UK if a business doesn’t have this in place and its data is leaked or compromised, it could be fined up to £17.5 million or 4% of its annual worldwide turnover, whichever is higher.

  • Prove to existing and potential customers there are effective cyber security safety measures in place, certified by the UK government.

  • It provides businesses with a clear picture of their cyber security level

  • Often Government contracts may request Cyber Essentials certification
